"No Child Left Indoors" -  July 2011

Nature study on Monday mornings will again be offered for children
ages 5 to 12.  Dates are July 11, 18, and 25.

“No Child Left Indoors,” a summer educational program for Lake George children offered under the auspices of the Lake George Conservancy, was begun in 2009.  The third annual nature study will continue on three Monday mornings in July 2011 from 10:00 AM to noon.   Each session also includes an art activity.  Snacks and water are provided.

The topic of the first session on July 11th is Trees and Plants with Fred Wooley, naturalist with Pokagon State Park.  The children should meet at 10:00 AM on the Conservancy property on old 27 and wear appropriate shoes and clothing for a walk in the woods.

The second session on July 18th will look at what lives in Lake George.  The children will meet on the lawn of the Retreat restaurant for this session with Nate Simons of Blue Heron Ministries.  They should wear water shoes and swim suit or shorts for wading.

Let's Go Fishing is the theme for July 25th.   Volunteers Gene and Edna Moser will lead the children in learning how to prepare a fishing pole, how to cast, how to bait the hook, and how to clean their catch for eating.  The group will again meet on the lawn of The Lake George Retreat at 10:00 AM. The children should wear water shoes and swim suit or shorts and bring a life jacket.

All program costs are underwritten by the Lake George Conservancy.  To register your child for this free opportunity to learn about nature, please contact Nancy Stiefel  at 260-833-9896 or email her at stiefel152@yahoo.com.

In 2010 the children learned about life as a Native American when woodland bison lived in Indiana.
