Motion seconded, so moved. -Garbage service-Tom Phelps owner of the company Sanitation Solutions gave a presentation on his rubbish collection and recycling service that is available to our Lake homes. Recycle is twice a month, with trash pickup being on Mondays. He has offered the LGCA members a price break, with non-members having a higher price. Prices are with or without supplied cans. Without provided cans - $42.00 for 3 months. (includes recycle 20 gal. can & service) With provided 95 gal cans- $46.00 for 3 months (includes recycle 20 gal. can & service) *If he supplies the 95 Gal. cans, there is a minimum 3 yr. (commitment of can or no cans for entire group.) -Treasurer’s report- accepted as read. -Safety/ Patrol-Paul Schlatter-he will patrol the lake in our patrol boat. DNR will be ticketing for all infractions, i.e. approved throwable, fire extinguisher, etc. Both IN & MI must have an easily available “throwable device” and all boats must have a “sounding device” such as a horn or whistle. -Fish/Walleye-Gary Zandstra- we stocked the lake with 3,000 walleye last year. We will continue stocking the lake until we have a sustainable population. -Weeds- Jim Donahoe of Aquatic Weed Control gave a presentation on weeds. Our LARE grant request was denied this year. The amount of money available in the LARE grant program is greatly diminished due to their expenditures on the prevention of the Hydrilla weed coming into IN. Hydrilla weed started in FL. It grows many ways: spores, fragmentation, tubers and germinates at different times of the year. Eurasion water Millfoil grows by fragmentation. We started treating for it 3 years ago, it is an annual program to not only stop the spread in our lake but also to dimish it. The worst areas of the weed are both in MI, by the public boat ramp and Kope Kon Bayview. All other weeds must be treated on an individual basis by homeowners, LGCA hires Jim to treat the Eurasion Water Millfoil only. Jim has both IN & MI permits to treat our lake. There is no cost for the surveys he does 2 times a year. Treatment is in late May or early June., water temp. must be 60 degrees. Chemicals take 2-3 weeks to work. Our lake has had improvement. 2008 and 2009 treatment costs: $14,500 in IN. and $17,500 in MI. -MOTION- to hire Jim Donahoe of Aquatic Weed Control to treat Lake George this year for Eurasion Water Millfoil at last years cost. Seconded, so moved. Phone contact 574-533-2597 -Suggestion was made to move buoys to keep boats and skiers out of areas that have the Millfoil so that it cannot be as readily fragmented. Stan Newby will get weed info sheet for cottagers’. -Events- Bill King- boat parade theme is “ART” -Steuben County Lakes Council- we need a new representative for Lake George. -Secretary- after serving over 9 yrs Janie is unable to continue as Secretary for 2009, need someone to replace her. -Garage Sale- third weekend of June, 19th and 20th this year. -Stem & Stein- June 27, 5:30-8pm. Location: Dry Dock Marina. Ticket price $35. -Dam- D. Stang- we have been denied for the infrastructure grants that are being granted as government stimulus. Gordon Huffman ( retired atty.)- we are still being billed for an additional $16,000 for appeals work. Both our minutes and letters from Mulvaney describe with detail that our contract was for $25,000 capped. Our last check to them had “acceptance of this check makes our account paid in full” on it. If we were to file a grievance with Indianapolis Bar Assoc. it would be at no cost and they must review all cases with no favoritism. MOTION- contact Mulvaney law firm and state that we are paid in full and there will be no further payments. Seconded, so moved. -DNR did the Dam walk around evaluation in March, numerous LGCA members were there as well. Head of Trine University Civil Engineering would like to make our Dam a class project to find alternative solutions. They have asked for a $2,500 grant to the University to buy computer software and equipment for their group. DNR welcomes Trine Univ. to work on an alternative solution for the DAM. -Motion- to send Trine University $2,500.00 as a grant for them to try to solve our Dam structure problem., Seconded, so moved. -D&O Insurance- Steve Boomer has researched insurance companies to find that we may be able to save money by including our sailing groups and more. Seconded, so moved. -Web Camera- cost of $250.00 for basic equipment. Tabled for later. -Motion- for LGCA members to recommend trash and recycle pickup with Sanitation Solution.
